Statement about my chatelaine for Hélène Grimaud

I was fascinated by Hélène Grimaud because of the combination “music – wolfs”. Or, in other words, “civilization – nature”, “sophisticated – savage”, etc. ... I tried to visualize this contrast also in my jewelry piece.

The chains stand for a man-made world but refer also to the visual language of historical chatelaines. On the opposite, the green fabric spots refer to outside, the country-side, nature. The bunch of picked, unraveled threads are an almost literally reference for the wolf(tail). All of them are strongly connected.

But, mostly important : you can wear the chatelaine “open” or “closed”.
Sequel “how to open the chatelaine”:
The (imitation of the) wolf tail is attached to your trousers.
Remove right hand glove from the tail. Put on the right hand glove.
Remove the left hand glove from the tail. Put on the left hand glove.
The tail remains, hanging down from your trousers as a chatelaine.
When you wear both gloves, you can play the piano.

Hélène Grimaud ‘needs’ the savage influence of the wolfs to play the piano in an instinctive, intuitive, natural way… This is what my chatelaine try to communicate.
